Device Groups
Device groups help you organize related equipment into logical collections. When you're managing a large installation with dozens of devices, groups keep things manageable and help your team understand the system architecture at a glance.
Creating Device Groups
Open your project and navigate to the devices view.
Click New Group to create a device group.
Name the group based on its purpose or location — for example, "Parking Level 1 Cameras" or "Main Entrance Access Control."
Assign devices to the group by selecting them from your project's device list.
Device groups are project-specific. They help you organize devices within a single installation, making it easier to manage large projects with many devices.
Group Templates
If you regularly install similar configurations — say, a standard retail storefront package with specific camera, reader, and panel setups — you can save a group as a template.
Templates let you:
- Standardize installations — Ensure consistent equipment packages across similar projects
- Speed up design — Apply a template to a new project instead of adding devices one by one
- Maintain quality — Templates enforce your company's standard configurations
Create a device group with your standard configuration.
Save the group as a template.
On a new project, apply the template to automatically create the group with all its devices.
Create templates for your most common installation types — retail, office, warehouse, school. This saves significant time during the design phase and ensures nothing is forgotten.
Best Practices
- Group by system or area — "Video Surveillance - Building A" or "Access Control - Main Building"
- Use templates for repeatable work — If you install the same package frequently, template it
- Keep groups focused — Better to have more specific groups than fewer catch-all groups
